How our TCG shop in Garmisch-Partenkirchen came about from an idea.

No place for real TCG fans.

Sound familiar? You want to play a round of Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, or Yu-Gi-Oh!, but nobody in your circle shares your enthusiasm. You're looking for fellow players, but there's simply no suitable place for it in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the surrounding area. No collectible card shop, no regular matches, no events where you can meet new people.

That's exactly how we felt. We were three friends who had the same problem. We loved the hobby, but we lacked the space for it – not only physically, but also as a community.

Today you can find this place at Trinket Mage .

The search for like-minded people was arduous.

Sure, there were forums or social media groups. But hardly anyone from our area was really active there. And just hoping to randomly meet other players? Way too unreliable. If you don't have a solid network, you quickly become alone with your hobby.

For me, Martin, another problem arose: With three children and a full-time job, I hardly had any time to play actively. My own collection gathered dust and matches became a rarity. At the same time, I felt increasingly dissatisfied with my office job. After eight years at the desk, it was clear to me: I want to change something.

Other options simply didn't work.

The few alternatives weren't a real solution. Ordering online? Sure! But what good is having cards if you don't have a place to play them? The nearest stores were far too far away. And while large online shops offered products, they didn't offer a community.

And then we asked ourselves the question: " Why isn't there a TCG shop for our hobby here?"

The Birth of Trinket Mage

So we decided: Let's take matters into our own hands!

We started small – with our own collection of cards as our initial capital. The idea was simple: an online shop that might one day become a real store.

What we didn't expect: The demand was huge. The community in and around Garmisch-Partenkirchen grew much faster than we thought. Within two years, a side hustle turned into a TCG retailer with a growing fanbase. And with the expansion came challenges: Our team changed. In the end, I took over Trinket Mage alone.

For me, that was the decisive moment. I knew that I didn't just want to sell cards. I wanted to create a TCG shop with events and encounters, a place where players could meet. Where friendships are formed and the hobby is truly lived.
